Week 2 - Friday - Tarbert

Today is a quiet one for us, sitting out yet another windy day and spending time exploring until Peter leaves tomorrow.

Paul Wilsdon then joins, and we have been talking about shopping. I know Paul well, and you can be sure that he will have catered for him, me and at least 3 other people! He also brings much needed supplies; namely new hinges for the gas locker!

We have a couple of minor technical annoyances with the boat;

1) The engine is drinking oil and also leaking slightly. To be fair though, she is an old girl and has motored for 23 out of the last 48 hours!

2) There is still a freshwater leak into the bilges but it does not seem to be so bad. I suspect that it is actually an accumulation of a number of leaks at deck level, some of which we have fixed. Painful but not life threatening!

In terms of daily life, then we are starting to get things sorted.

Using frozen milk to keep the cooler box cold is working well, and we have been still able to drink the milk  after a week. However I would say that it has been so cold that freezer blocks were probably not actually required!

Heating is provided by the gas hob. This is OK, but tends to heat the top of the cabin mostly, so we have hot heads and cold feet!

Hygiene has not been too bad, and we wash while in harbour. On sailing days, a quick dab with a wet wipe suffices!

The food and cooking has been great, with the grill and cooker performing well. Washing up is the real pain, as the sink is small and inaccessible. I make this easier by adopting the one pan method............cook and eat your meals from one pan only. (see photo)

We have been looking at the details of the blog and how many hits we are getting.

80% are from the UK, 15% from the USA, with a few hits from Germany and 5 from Russia. None of us know anyone in Russia, so we would love to know who you are?

Also, come on Denmark - where are you?

 Finally a question for you to answer via comments:

We mentioned that we saw a 'highway of Gannets' yesterday. Do you know where the colony is and also come up with a name for the 'highway'.

As an example Peter has come up with; 'Wing Road!'. Can you do better?
